Bad guys was destined to become a movie! It's a hilarious series by Aaron Blabey, where animals that are normally villains in stories, are turning good. Come check out these books from the library!

Out fifth graders applied the Design Thinking Process to Strawbees, our new materials for building. Students were given a certain number and kind of Strawbees, then were challenged to build the tallest free standing structure with those supplies. Working with classmates, they talked through their ideas, decided what to implement, and how to improve upong it in order to reach their goal. Way to go 5th graders!
Devonshire 3rd Graders learned about bobsleds and what makes them go fast. Partners then built a track on a lego plate for the "bobsled marble" to travel through. They then had their time trial, where partners timed each other to see who could complete their bobsled track in the least amount of time. Fun!
This website will be a place to go if you're not sure what to read next! We'll use it to add to our FAVORITES list in Destiny Discover, see what books you might like based on what you've already been reading, focus on a certain genre or topic, and even get some inspiration from a quote or a laugh from a joke! This website will have a QR code in our IDEAS section in the library as well! Keep checking back, as I will be adding books ALL THE TIME!
Last week, students in grades 3-5 all did the same Keva Challenge. Build the tallest structure you can with ONLY TEN Keva planks. Students worked together, discussed ideas, built, and built again to improve their design. The champ at the end of the week were 5th graders Umaira and Maddy with 28.5 inches. Way to go!
Typically, fiction books are organized by author. That works for our intermediate students who are able to use the online catalog, have learned library skills, and practiced locating books in the school library, but what about our youngest students?
It was time for a change. We re-organized our picture book section by category! What a difference it has made in their independence browsing for books, and making choices about what they are going to read. There are category pictures on the windows above each shelving section that tell the students what they can find below. On each book below, there is a corresponding sticker of that category. In other words, if you'd like to read a story that has a dog in it, look for the picture of a dog on the window above...below it look for the shelf label and books with that same picture of a dog! We're loving it! |
