Our 4th graders put what they learned about economics to the test! Students have been learning about goods and services, cost and profit, producer and consumer, budget, as well as competition. I think the vocabulary word competition became real life when our culminating sale took place. Each class operated as a business. Within each class three products were made. Some products were goods and some were services. Some of our products included stress balls, slime, emotion jars, perler bead creations, art lessons, basketball lessons, and football lessons! Using their budget, fourth graders created their goods and services in our D-Lab, obtained endorsements, made commercial and print advertisements, established prices, and prepared for the big sale. Meanwhile, our second graders, who were learning about economics as well, earned currency in their classrooms. Our second graders considered needs vs. wants and spending vs. saving, while being our consumers at the sale. Lots of learning and fun was had by all!

When students had an extra minute, they could stop and add to our sticker mosaic. We watched as our Monarch Butterfly slowly appeared!
As part of our Monarch Award nominated literature, we read Claymates today; two balls of clay that can become anything...even best friends. Afterward, Kindergarten and 3rd grade students took their inspiration into the lab to form some 'claymations' of their own. They photographed their creations and we'll use them later to tell a story!
