Some fourth and fifth grade classes took out the accessories of our Dash and Dots to experiment with measurement, angles, and music! When coding the Dash robots, students needed to estimate measurements and angles to launch the ping pong ball into the buckets. They also needed to know angles to code Dash to turn it the proper amount in the soccer game, where each robot used the bulldozer attachment to push the ping pong ball into the goal. The last task was to take what they learned from Ms. Myers in music and apply it with what they've learned about coding to create a song!

Fourth Grade holds their sale for the second grade consumers! If you've read previous posts, there was much learning and "making" taking place leading up to the final "test"....sale day! Fourth graders had an imaginary budget. We empathized with our second grade consumers...what would a second grader like to buy or find useful? What materials do we need? How much can we spend on materials? How much should we spend on advertisements? What advertisement techniques should we use? How many items do we think we'll sell? How much should we charge for our product and will that be enough to cover our expenses? How much space should we "rent" in Area 68?
Our second grade consumers had been earning currency in their classrooms to spend at the sale. What items should I buy? What advertisements make me WANT to buy something? Is this item a want or a need? Should I spend all of my money or save some? Our fourth and second graders answered all of these questions and more to prepare for the sale...and the hard work paid off! The sale was a success! What a great way to learn about economics! Some of our goods and services included... Services:
Skokie Public Library will be having Winter Break Reading Challenges! Be sure to watch the video below for more information and sign up at the Book Mobile 2:30-3:30 on Fridays! You can register at the library as well! After much learning and planning, 4th graders have begun making their goods and creating their advertisements and commercials in preparation for the big sale! They've learned about goods vs. services, producer vs. consumer, budget, cost, profit, competition, division of labor, setting a price, assembly lines, and more! We've prepped and planned, and now the "making" is underway! Our 2nd graders have been busy in their classrooms learning about wants vs. needs and earning "money" to spend at the 4th grade sale. Commercials and advertisements coming soon!
This group of students from Ms. Vale's class are working to become the stop motion experts of the class. There are many nuances to learn in stop motion! What variables should be stable and which should move? How fast should the images play? How small should the motions between images? Fun to watch them learn!
